Objectives

1. Contact with and discuss some of the most significant literary works of the Baroque and Neoclassical periods in Portugal; 2. Identify and characterise the theory basics and aesthetic-literary practices developed throughout the 16th and 17th centuries; 3. Properly apply the basic theory instruments to the review of lyrical and narrative literary texts; 4. Produce, at analysis and comment level, a critical and reasoned discourse.

Learning outcomes and competences

1.The current syllabus aims at providing students with solid knowledge of Portuguese literature (XVII-XVIII). Aiming at including essential aspects of Portuguese literature, the syllabus selects a set of topics, problematizing the corresponding theoretical contexts and establishing a historical and cultural setting tat the same time as it allows the development of the ability to identify and contextualize a topic, an author, a work. 

2. This syllabus intends also to develop student's writing and research skills
