- Learning the vocabulary and basic grammatical, morphological and syntactic structures of Latin; - Using this knowledge to translate texts with an increasing level of difficulty.
- At the end of the semester, students must demonstrate mastery of grammatical and lexical structures studied by translating simple texts (Latin / Portuguese, Portuguese / Latin).
1. Reading, translation and grammar, literary and cultural comments on a selection of annotated texts (adapted and originals), providedin the form of anthology and organizedaccording to the level of difficulty and grammatical subjects presented.
2. Grammar issues
2.1. Morphology
2.1.1. Noun inflexion: nouns (fourth and fifth declensions).
2.1.2. Degrees of adjectives.
2.1.3. Adverbs formed by adjectives and their degrees.
2.1.4. Pronouns: relative, interrogative and indefinite.
2.1.2. Verbal inflexion: indicative mode: past continuous, present perfect, future perfect e past perfect (active and passive voices); noun forms: infinitives, participles. Deponent verbs.
2.2. Syntax
2.2.1. The subordinate clause: relatives; infinitive complete clauses; conjunctional complete clauses: “ut” and “ne” + subjunctive; circumstantial clauses: finite, conditional (real mode) and of concession (with indicative).
2.2.2. The absolute ablative.
2.2.3. Circumstantial complements.
3. Using grammar in translation exercises into Latin.
4. From Latin to Portuguese: the basics of Portuguese.

Attending 75% of classes, unless established otherwise by law.
Ordinary student: two tests - 90% (40% + 50%); resolving and presenting texts and previously defined work in class - 10%. Student work: 1st test - 35%, 2nd test - 65%.
NOTE: In the scheme of continuous assessment, the final grades of 8 and 9 are not subject to oral examination.
