Objectives

The main goal of this curricular unit is the identification of the PhD theme and the binomial tutor-student. 

Learning outcomes and competences

In this curricular unit is is expected thaat the stubent be able:

- To identify the theme for the PhD project

- To identify and to consolidate the relationship with tutorial team

- To use findings aids in an articulated way with curricular unit Research Methods and Techniques

- To validate research methods and techniques to be used in PhD project

- To review the state of the art relevant under the topic of the thesis proposal

Program

The curricular unit welcomes a diversity of research themes, able to attract the students´ interests. The presentation of those themes, organized in a logical, systematic and coherent way by the teachers responsible for the curricular unit, depends essentially on the responsibility of the members of the research centre CETAC.MEDIA and it is organized according to the following areas:

1. Information organization and representation

2. Informational Behaviour

3. Communication Processes in new media

4. Applications on participatory media

The bibliographic references will be indicated by the tutorial teams for each one of the theemes and in accordance to each one of the PhD contexts.

Teaching methods and learning activities

This curricular unit is based on a seminar model with the following strategies to complement the students´ learning process:

- initiates with a expositive process;

- uses the tutorial model focused on the student’s work;

- promotes group dynamics in order to share experiences and knowledge acquired during the “PhD project proposal” construction process.

Calculation formula of final grade

Evaluation is done continuously. The different evaluation components are collected in face to face environment in result of autonomous work. The weight of the final evaluation is based on the following criteria:

- The student path and participation, assiduity and deadline accomplishment indicators [5%]

- Process evaluation by the tutor and adequacy of the research [25%]

- Public presentation and discussion of PhD theme [20%]

- Elaboration of a final document, with PhD theme, objectives and state the art of the thesis topic [50%]
