Objectives
To make students aware of basic, introductory aspects of psycholinguistics; to develop students’ critical reasoning.
Learning outcomes and competences
To enable the students to deal critically with topics related to this curricular unit and to write academic works with the rigor required at this level.

1. Distinguishing linguistics, psycholinguistics and psychology of language. 2. Language and cognition: definition and possible relations between both. 2.1. A practical approach of the language-cognition dichotomy. 3. Hesitation in discourse; psycholinguistic aspects. 3.1. Trasncribing oral discourse. 3.1.1. Orthographic transcription and its filtering effect. 3.1.2. Psycholinguistic “deafness” and hearer’s age. 4. Individual differences and information processing. 5. Introduction to the analysis of different practices of oral and written language. 5.1. Computer-mediated language.

Classification improvement
Students may improve their marks at the "Exame de Recurso" chosing the part of the evaluation where they find that they may get a better mark.
Observations
The evaluation of this curricular unit will be distributed without final exam. It will be composed by two papers.
The first paper, with the value of 40%, will take place in th middle of the semester. The second one, with the value of 60%, will be accomplished following the pattern of the first one, in the last class of the semester. This change is due to the fact that the professor will be retired at the end of november.
