The goals of this course are fundamentally two:
(1) understand some basic economic principles and instruments; (2) understand the aggregate movements of contemporary economies.
The UC intends that the approved student has acquired the following essential skills:
1 - Explain the concepts of opportunity cost and reserve price;
2 - Apply the cost-benefit principle to economic decision problems;
3 - Understand the model of supply and demand and the functioning of a perfect competition market;
4 - Master the essential aspects of the concepts of the main macroeconomic variables;
5 - Be able to critically read articles, opinion texts, macreconomic analysis bulletins in a comprehensive and critical way.

Distributed evaluation without final exam:
The distributed evaluation consists of 2 tests and 2 group assignments.
Each test has a weight of 30% and each group assignment has a weight of 20%
Dates: 1st test on April 6; 2nd test no the exam day. The first group assignment must be sent until 23:59 on April 6 (by email). The second group assignment must be sent until 23:59 on the exam day (by email).
Minimum classification: passing the distributed evaluation imples a minimum classification of 5.0 points in each test.
All students can take the distributed evaluation.

Evaluation by final exam.
In the distributed evaluation, the final classification of the student is given by:
0.3x1st test score + 0.3x2nd test score + 0.2x1st group assignment score + 0.2x2nd group assignment score.
In the final exam, the student's final classification is given by:
MAXIMUM (exam score; 0.6x exam score + 0.2x1st group assignment score + 0.2x2nd group assignment score)
