Objectives
By the end of the semester students should reach an intermediate level between B1 and B2, as defined by the Common European Framework for languages.
Learning outcomes and competences
Students should have become more autonomous and should have developed their linguistic, socio-linguistic and pragmatic skills in order to be able to:
- understand an audiovisual document on a current thematic topic;
- understand descriptive and argumentative texts on a specific topic;
- take part in an informal discussion and express their opinion on a given topic;
- express themselves, demonstrating a reasonable fluency;
- write descriptive, narrative and argumentative texts in a clear, concise and precise style.

Program
1- Development of knowledge and know-how using the CEFR self-assessment grid; identification of gaps and definition of strategies to fill them.
2- Oral skills development.
2.1. Understanding radio or TV programmes on current affairs or topics of social or personal interest.
2.2. Active participation in the oral language activities conducted in class
2.3. Participation in 2 discussions (in addition to regular courses) on current topical issues.
3- Writing and reading skills development.
3.1. Reading comprehension of descriptive and narrative texts.
3.2. Strengthening of skills in writing descriptive and narrative texts.
3.3. Introduction to the methodology and tools available to write argumentative texts on the topics addressed in class or in the discussion groups .
4- Linguistic, socio-linguistic and pragmatic skills development.
4.1. Strengthening of language skills and extension of grammar skills (in particular: indicative and subjunctive tenses, passive voice, simple and complex relative pronouns, subordinate clauses and logical links).
4.2. Lexical enrichment through the organisation of a thematically structured glossary
4.3 Raising the awareness of cultural and linguistic diversity within the Francophonie.
4.4. Organization, structure and adequacy of discourse.
4.5. Expressing an opinion, agreement, disagreement, feelings and intentions.

Eligibility for exams
Students are required to attend 75 % of classes, with exceptions according to FLUP regulations.
Calculation formula of final grade
Epoca Normal:Ongoing assessment : 50%
- Oral participation during the class: 10%
- Discussions : 20%
- Written production exercices : 30%
Final exam : 50%
- Written exam (Reading comprehension & Written production) : 25%
---> A madatory passing mark of 10/20 is required to be entitled to take the oral exam.- Oral exam (Listening comprehension & Oral production) : 25%

Classification improvement
Students may only repeat ONE written test for which they have a negative mark. Students must inform their teacher in writing (via email) which test they wish to repeat so that their names are generated automatically for the ‘recurso’ marks list on Sigarra.
