- Learning the vocabulary and basic grammatical, morphological and syntactic structures of Latin; - Using this knowledge to translate texts with an increasing level of difficulty.
- At the end of the semester, students must demonstrate mastery of grammatical and lexical structures studied by translating simple texts (Latin / Portuguese, Portuguese / Latin).
1. Reading, translation and grammar, literary and cultural comments on a selection of annotated texts (adapted and originals), providedin the form of anthology and organizedaccording to the level of difficulty and grammatical subjects presented. 2. Grammar issues 2.1. Morphology 2.1.1. Noun inflexion: nouns (fourth and fifth declensions); degrees of adjectives; adverbs formed by adjectives, and their degrees. 2.1.2. Verbal inflexion: indicative mode: past continuous, present perfect, future, future perfect e past perfect (active and passive voices); conjunctive mode (infectum); noun forms: infinitives, participles. Deponent verbs. 2.2. Syntax 2.2.1. The subordinate clause: comparatives; infinitive complete clauses; conjunctional complete clauses: “ut” and “ne” + subjunctive; circumstantial clauses: finite, conditional (real mode) and of concession (with indicative). 2.2.2. The absolute ablative. 2.2.3. Circumstantial complements. 3. Using grammar in translation exercises into Latin. 4. From Latin to Portuguese: the basics of Portuguese.
