Objectives

Approach to Spanish literature from the 17th century and study of the most characteristic genres of this period through some texts of its main representative authors.

Learning outcomes and competences

-Theoretical Competence: extensive knowledge of Spanish Baroque Literature (context, literary genres, authors and works).

-Practical Competence: ability to analyze the literary texts of
Spanish Baroque Literature.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Theoretical sessions, practical sessions and theoretical / practical sessions. Theoretical exposition, reading and textual analysis. The students will support materials for each topic in the Sigarra.

Class attendance minimum of 75% of the lessons, except in the predicted cases.

Calculation formula of final grade

A. Assessment without optional classwork:

-Written exam: 100% (maximum: 20 points out of 20).

-Content: all course content.

-Structure:
1. Theoretical question (5 points).
2. Comment Text: analysis of a poetic text (5 points).
3. Another comment text (from a prose or theatrical text) or other theoretical question (5 points).
4. Brief questions about the required reading and / or the works presented in class (5 points).

B. Assessment with optional classwork:

-Classwork: 20% (maximum: 4 points out of 20).

Groups should choose other literary work of the 17th century Spanish teacher list for the first month of class and make an oral presentation of it in the last weeks of the course (maximum 20 minutes).

-Written exam: 80% (maximum: 16 points out of 20).

Comment from a prose or theatrical text (4 points).

La vida es sueño and Don Quijote de La Mancha (selection of Primera parte del ingenioso hidalgo don Quijote de La Mancha).

After choosing the type of assessment, the student can not change it.

If a student suspended in normal times (assessment A or B) or want to improve your score, you are warned that in times of resource, special, etc., there will be only one type of evaluation (A) and will not be saved note of the presentation in class.

Classes are taught in spanish, although students may write the exams and even present their classwork either in portuguese or spanish, being given the chance to choose the language they are more comfortable with.
