Objectives

Objectives
- Analysis of contemporary social realities at local, national and global environmental issues in the context of a globalized world;
- Analysis of recent theoretical and empirical developments in the fields of development and sustainability, with particular focus on the problems of local governments, development models and social movements;
- Analysis of social movements and perception of environmental associations in the context of globalization;
- Analysis of the relationship between social and natural systems in the context of the increasing social risks;
- Analysis of political, economic, social, legal and symbolic related with this problems;
- Analysis of environmental issues in terms of representations, values and individual attitudes.

Program

1. Brief conceptual framework: defining concepts of the theoretical problem.
2. Environment, Nature and Society: the society and the political power regarding the emerging problems.
3. Trends and analytical axes today.
4. The role of territory and its socio-environmental characteristics: the Portuguese case.
5. Environment, social change and environmental policies: endogeneity (s) and sustainable development.
6. Citizenship, social movements and environmental associations.
7. Representations, values and attitudes towards the environment: the Portuguese case in a comparative perspective.
