Objectives
The teacher’s objective is to encourage the student to:
- Acquire knowledge and specialized skills in the area of sociology of art;
- Understand better the sociological approach to the relationship between art, culture and society in the context of cultural globalisation;
- Acquire a better knowledge of Portuguese society from the point of view of artistic production and reception.
Learning outcomes for the student
- Learning outcomes of the programme;
- A greater understanding of the theories and problems that refer to specific themes of sociological analysis and othe fields in the social sciences;
- Transversal learning outcomes of the Master’s degree;
- Capacity for analysis, criticism, synthesis, written and oral expression, and the knowledge and application of at least one foreign language;
- Capacities for managing information (research, selection and analysis), for autonomous and group study, learning, innovation and creativity.

Eligibility for exams
The elements of evaluation:
- doing a individual thematic report;
- implementing the proposed activities in tutorial classes (OT)
- attendance and participation in sessions (TP and OT).
Calculation formula of final grade
- Individual thematic report: 60%
- Activities of tutorial classes, participation and attendance: 40%.
In order to be approved in this course, the final classification must be equal to or higher than 10. The classification of each component must be less than 8 values.
Examinations or Special Assignments
The individual report is a critical reflection on a topic to be proposed by the teacher. The delivery of practical work takes place on dates specified by the teacher.
The activities of tutorial classes consist of worksheets about the contents of the program, linked to the achievement of the thematic report. They will be delivered on dates specified by the teacher.
Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)
Students who, by law, are exempt from class attendance shall be required to contact the teacher at the beginning of classes, for purposes of establishing evaluation procedures.
Classification improvement
According to the regulations of the school.
Requires the implementation of a new report and new worksheets.
Observations
Hours for students: time to be determined by the teacher at the start of classes. Its requires appointment by the student.
