Objectives

1. Strengthen the basics of grammatical analysis acquired in basic and secondary education;
2. Acquire the basic notions of the key areas of Phonology, Morphology, Morphosyntax and Syntax;
3. Develop techniques of grammatical description (observation, seeking regularities, generalising from linguistic data).

2.2.Morphological processes of word formation
2.3. Non-morphological processes of word formation
3. From morphosyntax to syntax
3.1. Word classes
3.2. The structure of syntactic elements and categories; selection of categories
3.3. Grammatical relations: syntactic functions and thematic roles
3.4. Clause, simple sentence and complex sentence
3.5. Coordination and subordination
4. Basic notions of Phonetics and Phonology
4.1. Consonants, vowels and semi-vowels (glides)
4.2. Brief characterisation of sound articulation
4.3. The accent; classification of words according to accent; the general accentuation rules in Portuguese
4.4. Unstressed vowels.
