Details
Summary: Microalgae are considered one of the most promising feedstock for sustainable supply of commodities for both food and non-food products. To realize this promise, the production cost should be reduced. PIV4Algae aims to explore the use of wastewater to produce high-value products, fish food and biofuels. In addition, two novel configurations of photobioreactor (PBR) will be tested to enhance areal productivity. PIV4Algae activities comprise microalgal growth and valorisation. The integration of cultures in the industries associated to the project will be studied: wastewater treatment and biomass assimilation in the value chain. Results are expected to improve the process sustainability and to achieve biofuel at a low cost, using the biorefinery concept. PIV4Algae is divided in 6 tasks: management and dissemination; model development; optimization of a novel PBR; enhancement of carotenoids production; biodiesel production and characterization; construction and test of new PBR.
