Micaela Aguiar is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto. She holds a PhD in Language Sciences, specializing in Discourse Analysis, from the University of Minho, where she completed her dissertation, Presidential Images in Inaugural Addresses in the One Hundred Years of the Portuguese Republic, in 2021. She holds a degree in European Languages and Literatures, with a major in Portuguese and a minor in French, and a master’s degree in Portuguese and Comparative Linguistics.
Her research is situated within the field of Discourse Analysis, with a particular focus on political discourse, academic and scientific discourse, the construction of ethos, and emotions in discourse. She has also developed work at the interface between linguistics, digital humanities, artificial intelligence, specialized linguistic resources, open science, and science education.
She has participated in several funded research projects, including PortLinguE – Multilingual Portal for Specialized Linguistic Resources, PAFSE – Partnerships for Science Education, and RELIA – Digital Transformation of Public Libraries with Artificial Intelligence. She is the author and co-author of scientific publications in the areas of discourse analysis, linguistics, and digital humanities, and has co-edited works published in these fields. Since 2023, she has been a member of the Arqus Open Science Ambassadors Network and is currently editor-in-chief of H2D – Digital Humanities Journal.
