Apresentação Pessoal

Juliana Novo Gomes is a linguist with a background that features Theoretical and Experimental Linguistics. In addition to her expertise and passion for generative syntactic and semantic systems and the limitless combinatorial processes of human language processing, she has experience with online and offline psycholinguistic research methods, such as EEG/ERPs and eye-tracking, data analysis and programming (Python and R).
As a researcher in the fields of Psycholinguistics and Language Processing, she seeks to understand the neural basis of syntactic structure building. Thus, in addition to studies aiming directly at syntax-semantics at the sentence level, her research also addresses processes at the word level, such as lexical access, morphological and semantic decomposition. Recently, her research has also focused on characterizing the brain mechanisms of reading and learning a language - such as those underlined in N170 and, Second Language Processing and Acquisition.

Juliana is an Assistant Professor of Linguistics at the University of Porto (FLUP) in Portugal and is a researcher associated to the Center of Linguistics at UP, CLUP, and to the Graduate Program of Linguistics of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (PPGLin UFRJ). She is a researcher and coordinator of the Linguistics Research Lab (LingLab/CLUP) and is a member of the following research groups: Theoretical and Experimental Linguistics Group (LTE/UMinho), Syntactic Access Laboratory (Laboratório Acesin/UFRJ), Electroencephalography and Eye-tracking Laboratory (Laboratório LER/UFRJ). She is a member  of the Linguisticamente Falando - aProject of Scientific Dissemination of Linguistic Research. She is an associate editor of Revista Diacrítica and Prolingua (UFPB) and is a member of ABRALIN's Psycholinguistics and Language Neuroscience Commission, having been the coordinator of this group between 2020-2022. She was an FCT/CEECIND researcher at CEHUM at the University of Minho. She coordinates several projects on the syntax-semantics interface; first and second language processing, language acquisition, indigenous language (Karajá) and educational neuroscience.
