Ana Cristina Sousa is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto - Department of Heritage Studies, in the scientific area of History of Art. She has a degree in History - Variant Art (1992), a Master's degree in History of Art (1997) and a PhD in Portuguese History of Art (2010) from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto, with a thesis on the study of sacred metals in the 15th-16th centuries, winner of the 2016 Dr. Vasco Valente Decorative Arts Prize.
She is an integrated researcher at CITCEM (Transdisciplinary Research Center “Culture, Space and Memory”) /FLUP - working group “Tangible and Intangible Heritage”, member of GREC - Núcleo dePesquisa dos Ex-votos (NPE) [Ex-votos Research Group], of Federal University of Bahia (Brazil) and of the research group “Communities, Representations, Cultural Intersections” of the University of Bucharest. She carries out research and has published in the following areas of knowledge: Image Studies, Ex-votos, Applied Arts, in particular Metals (techniques, forms and ornament), Medieval and Modern Art. She has been a member of various organizing and scientific committees for international conferences related to Decorative Arts, Image and Visual Culture.
She coordinated the Gondomar Filigree Application to the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage (classified on 10.10.2023).
She also has publications and activities in the field of Tourist Information, and was author of a History textbook for the 3rd Cycle of Basic Education.
