Fluids and Energy Section

Acronym: SFE
Head: Paulo José Coelho
Description: The Fluids and Energy Section carries out teaching, research and development activities in various domains.
Teaching: Responsible for teaching subjects taught in courses under the responsibility of DEMec or in which it collaborates and which are related to:

Thermodynamics
Fluid Mechanics
Heat Transfer
Energy Management

and thus responds to the demands of university training in professional areas that are experiencing strong expansion, such as:
Industrial Thermal (energy efficiency, energy and environment)
Building Thermal (comfort, air conditioning, indoor air quality, etc.)
Renewable Energies (solar thermal, wind, biomass and biofuels, etc.)

Research: the following are examples of thematic areas of research under the direction of professors integrated into the SFE,

Analytical, Numerical and Experimental Studies of Heat Transfer
Experimentation and Modeling of the Thermal Behavior of Buildings and their Construction Components,
Air Conditioning,

Assessment of Indoor Air Quality in Buildings,
Renewable Energies,
Development of Numerical Techniques,
Numerical Simulation of Flows and Computational Rheology,

Complex Fluid Dynamics (elastic instabilities in flows),
Fundamental Studies of Turbulence and its Modeling with Newtonian and Complex Fluids,
Microfluidics (microrheometry, micro-hydrodynamics of fluids and complex flows),
Biofluid Dynamics of the Human Body,
Multiphase Fluid Flows,
Combustion Systems and Numerical Simulation of Micro-Combustion,
Fuel Cells,
