Objectives

At the end of lective component of the UC, the student should be able to:

    • To know and distinguish the concept of Occupational safety:
    • To identify the most common risks of work accidents;
    • Identify some special risks;
    • Formulate an economic perspective of the accidents;
    • Point solutions for different risk situations.

 

Learning outcomes and competences

Once completed the UC, the student is able to meet the fundamental needs of a company in the field of Occupational Safety.

    • Legal framework of workplace accidents;

 

    • Causes of workplace accidents, workplace accidents statistics, statistical control of accidents;

 

    • Personal protective equipment;

 

    • Prevention and Fire Safety;

 

    • Electrical Hazards;

 

    • Protection of machines; Main types of equipments;

 

    • Risks typification Electrical protection and mechanical protection; applicable law;

 

    • Safety Signs.

Teaching methods and learning activities

 

Theoretical presentation, case presentations, and resolution of exercises. The questions asked by the students are clarified as they are raised.

Eligibility for exams

75% according to general evaluation rules of FEUP.

Eligibility for exams: 90 % to obtain the Vocational Training Certificate;

Calculation formula of final grade

 

Two tests are performed with the same weight. The 2nd test will take place on the scheduled date for the 1st call of the examinations. There will be exam to students who do not achieve the goals of the curricular unit in the distributed evaluation.

Classification improvement

Possibility for the student to repeat one of the tests at the time of appeal, if the classification in both tests is equal or higher than 7 points. If the classification in one of the tests is less than 7 points, the student will appeal over all subjects.

Observations

NOTE 1- The MIEA or Extraordinary student  who are attending this UC under the conditions referred in "Eligibility for exams", will ensure a Vacancy in the application to MESHO in the 1st phase of the next school year.

- The conclusion of MESHO allows obtaining a Professional Certificate in safety.

- The attribution of this Certificate is conditioned upon to frequency in 90% of the classes.

NOTE 2- The MIEA students who are attending this UC will be able to complete the mesho in just one school year.
