Prepare students to implement project management methodologies in the context of the activities of an organization as well as to perform the function of project manager. So they should be able to recognize the relevance of applying the project management methodology, to structure and implement project management methodologies for the development of critical activities in the context of a given organization and to starting performing the role of project manager.
By the end of the course students should be able to (i) identify a project and define its situation on the overall context, as well as establish its interdependence with other activities of the Organization, (ii) to assess the nature and degree of complexity of a project and define the management processes to be applied, (iii) design and implement the organizational structure for the project, (iv) do a detailed plan of a project management, (v) start performing the function of project manager.

1. PROJECT MANAGEMENT OVERVIEW: Project management framework in the context of the organization; General concept of project management; Role of the project manager; Project life cycle; Analysis of examples (case studies).
2. ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURES: Organisational structures for the implementation of project management; Analysis of examples (case studies).
3. PROJECT MANAGEMENT METHODOLOGIES: Reference methodology; Critical dimensions of project management; High lever groups of management processes required for project management.

This course is based on the following complementary activities that involve lecturing, learning, and associated assessment of acquired knowledge and competences:
A1. THEORETICAL NOTIONS: The theoretical concepts taught during theoretical classes should be learnt by study activities and conceptualisation.
A2. CASES STUDIES: Case-study as object of analysis, discussion and exploration of solutions will allow students to exercise the application of theoretical learned concepts.
A3. COLABORATIVE WORK: two assignments, regarding the application of project management methodologies, should allow students to practice and apply the concepts of project management methodologies.
A4. PROJECT MANAGEMENT PLAN: Making a concrete project management plan should allow students to exercise and apply knowledge on management processes.
A5. PROJECT MANAGEMENT SIMULATION: Should allow students to practice, through simulation, the activity of monitoring and control of project execution.

Given that the final mark is a result of the evaluation of the four assignments this is the only way to go through the assessment process.
The final mark will be based on the mark of three group assignments (70%) and one individual assignment (30%).
P0 – Group Assignment #1: 15% - Case-Study #1 on project management methodologies implementation.
P1 – Group Assignment #2: 15% - Case Study #2 on project management methodologies implementation.
P2 – Group Assignment #3: 40% - Project management Plan and Simulation.
P3 – Individual Assignment: 30% - Based on a Case-Study.
Participation in all assignments is mandatory to get approval in the course.
