This course completes the topics from EQ0061 – Chemistry Fundamentals I and is designed to cover the basic principles, modern topics and contemporary applications of chemistry.
Have the foundations in the fundamentals and application of current chemical and scientific theories.
Are able to design, carry out, record and analyze the results of simple chemical experiments.
Are able to use simple instrumentation and classical techniques, to design simple experiments, and to properly record the results of their experiment.
Are skilled in problems solving, critical thinking and analytical reasoning.

Notwithstanding the provisions in the regulation of the FEUP, a student obtains frequency when making all the homework, all experimental work successfully (ie with ratings equal to or higher than 10) and all tests and final exam with a classification different from 0 (zero) in each. You must deliver all elements of evaluation, even if they are not credited with a rating for being late. If a student does not deliver all the homework, all the tests, all the reports and the final exam, will not get frequency. There is no rated frequency.
Students with more than one entry to the course are exempted from homework.
On successful completion of the laboratory component the classification obtained is valid for that year and can be maintained for the next academic year, provided there is no significant change in the contents, or evaluation mode.
Obtaining final classification requires compliance with the attendance at the course. It is considered that a student meets attendance to a course if, after having been duly registered does not exceed the maximum number of absences equal to 25% of each of the types of classes.
For a detailed description of frequency, consult the general information of discipline for the current school year. There are no alternative criteria of frequency.
For students regularly enrolled for the first time in the course the final classification (CF1) in the range of 20 (twenty) points is composed of 7.5% for all weekly homework (TPC), 12.5% for 1st test (T1), 15% for 2nd test (T2), 15% for 3rd test (T3), 20% for the experimental projects (L) and 30% for the final exam (E).
CF1 = TPC x 7,5% + T1 x 12,5% + T2 x 15% + T3 x 15% + L x 20% + E x 30%
For students with more than one entry in course (CFR) the final classification in the range of 20 (twenty) points is composed of 15% for the 1st Test (T1), 17.5% for the 2nd Test (T2), 17 5% for 3rd Test (T3), 20% for the experimental (L) and 30% for the final exam (E).
CFR = T1 x 15% + T2 x 17,5% + T3 x 17,5% + L x 20% + E x 30%
A pass requires a final classification equal to or higher than 10.
There are no alternative forms of assessment due to the distributed and cooperative nature of some of the evaluation components.
It is impossible to improve any individual component of distributed assessment because of their nature, extent and in the case of laboratory because the assessment process is not individual and it is cooperative.
Makeover of the final exam is possible in accordance with the rules of FEUP. The improvement only affects this component in the proportion allocated to it.
