Objectives

To sensetize the future engineers for the problematic of the security against fires in buildings. To supply a first boarding to the basic concepts of the "Fire Engineering". To familiarize them to the current techniques, as well as with the Portuguese, relative regulation and normalization of the safety against fires in buildings.

Program

The fire and its effect: the phenomenum of the fire; fire in compartment; behavior of the construction materials; behavior of the construction elements. Prevention and protection: fire risk and security; calculation to the fire of the structures; general disposals of security; fire detention and alarm; means of extinguishing; organization and management of the security.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Theoretical exposition illustrated with the projection of acetates and frequently with practical, examples. In the theoretic-practical lessons, resolution of concrete problems, for application of the theoretical knowledge previously given; or exemplification of these.
