Objectives
This course aims to:
- frame all the information related with the development of building design;
- outline the importance of an efficient and well planned stages of a building design;
- describe methodologies of design checking
- describe strategies of design revue
Program
1- INTRODUCTION- introduction to the course: aims; professional perspectives regarding the subjects of this course.
2- QUALITY ASSESSMENT FOR TECHNICAL DESIGNS- specialities in building design; staging; design parts; advantages of a logic analysis of a project; the importance of partnering approach;
Methods for quality assessment of projects: QUALITEL, SEL, HQI, MC.FEUP, JBP.LNEC
Application of MC.FEUP and SEL to several aspects of small houses
3- REVUE OF TECHNICAL DESIGNS- Its importance and usage; role of the team of design revue; good practice issues
Scope of revue in each stage of the design; revue of solutions: response, regulations, quality, durability, performance and maintenance, organization of information, compatibility
Reports of design revue: organization, information, correction control
Design revue and solutions efficiency: to identify the best alternative to reach a higher profitability
DEMONSTRATION OF THE SYLLABUS COHERENCE WITH THE CURRICULAR UNIT'S OBJECTIVES:
The increasing complexity and number of technical projects required for the proper and complete study and subsequent implementation of a building, lead to the need for, in many situations, an evaluation of the effectiveness of proposed solutions and also a revision of the documents produced to timely detect and eliminate inconsistencies, omissions and other aspects that may difficult the achievement of expected results in terms of cost, time and quality. This curricular unit is intended to confront the students with a comprehensive set of real engineering design of various specialties, and get them to perform various operations on them so they are unaware of the difficulties mentioned above and work procedures for deal with them.
Mandatory literature

Teaching methods and learning activities
Theoretical classes- presentation and discussion of the themes of the course (slides)
Practical classes- they act as a complement to the theoretical classes; exercises and individual assignments
DEMONSTRATION OF THE COHERENCE BETWEEN THE TEACHING METHODOLOGIES AND THE LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Use methods for assessing the quality of projects to establish levels of efficiency for the designed solutions. Create procedures to develop activity in project review. Compare efficiencies of different solutions and discuss strategies designed to achieve appropriate global levels. Parameterize efficiency indicators of the information contained in design elements. Explain the reasons for inefficiency of the design-build cycle frequently identified. Investigate the possibilities of using current information technologies more effectively.
