Objectives

To transmit to the students the capacity to handle geometric and non-geometric information, in the production area. To implement computer programs that allow the processing of the information retrieved from commercial softwares. To identify and use the diverse characteristics inherent to the drafting programs and numerical control machines.

Program

Introduction to computer programming: program development cycle, programming tools and programming languages. Introduction to computer graphics: curves and surface interpolation, graphic libraries. CAD systems: their description and classification, their use in drafting and design, parametric drafting, three-dimensional modeling. Drawing-design, drawing-analysis and drawing-manufacturing interfaces. Computer aided manufacturing: basic principles, manual and automatic programming of NC machine tools.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Exposition of the different themes in theoretical-practical classes with analysis of examples. Several themes are suggested for practical assignments. In practical classes, some particularities are presented and some exercises are suggested, to be done on the computer, to apply the concepts and to the evaluation in class. The last classes are reserved to a more intense support to practical assignments.

Eligibility for exams

To pass this course the students must attain frequency first. The students must submit themselves to the evaluation in all its components: mini-tests, delivery of the practical assignment, presentation and discussion of the assignment delivered by the proponent.

Calculation formula of final grade

The final classification of the course will be the result of a calculation with the grades obtained in each of the evaluation components, which weight are the following:

Evaluation in class: 50% (3 mini-tests)
Practical Assignment: 50%

Examinations or Special Assignments

N/A

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

On the special examination periods, the students that are dismissed from attending classes, accordingly to the terms of items a) and b) of number 3 of Article 4 of the General Evaluation Rules, will be called to do a theoretical exam (on the contents of the three mini-tests), a practical assignment and a possible practical CAD examination.

Classification improvement

The grade improvement will be done according to Article 10 of the General Evaluation Rules of FEUP.
