Objectives
To transmit basic knowledge in Environmental Acoustics, Building Acoustics and Noise Control giving attention to the Portuguese and International laws, codes and standards.
Program
Historical background. Acoustics fundamentals, definitions and terminology (pression, frequency, time). Sound generation and propagation (sound screens, highway, train and aircraft noise, construction sites noise). Building acoustics (airborne sound, structureborne noise, plumbing and equipment noise). Architectural acoustics (large spaces).
Hearing and voice (physiological effects, psycho-acoustics, speech intelligibility).
Vibration analysis and control.
Community noise and its effects (legislation, standards, environmental impact assessments studies).
Acoustical measuring instruments.
