Objectives

To complement the general formation obtained in previous years of the course in the areas of building systems and technologies. To understand a building as a system. To know the available alternative technological solutions for buildings, traditional and modern, including materials.

Program

1. Introduction and presentation.
2. Processes, technologies and construction elements. Fundamentals.
3. Construction systemic approach
4. Current construction systems usually used in Portugal. Traditional systems. Heavyweight and lightweight building construction systems.
5. Some examples of construction systems.
6. Design. Practical applications to different building systems. Individual work.
Visits to construction sites: at least two visits, one on new construction and another on building rehabilitation .
