Objectives

- Relate all the information produced on Building Projects development
- Transmit the importance of an effective and planned evolution of Project fases
- Display and apply the Design Checking Methods
- Display and apply the Design Revue Strategies
- Introduce the concept of Risk Analysis in Civil Engineering Projects and the consequences on the results and orientations of Technical Projects on different areas

Program

1. INTRODUCTION. Course presentation and functioning. Goals to achieve. Professional perspectives.
2. DESIGN QUALITIES EVALUATION. Áreas involving buildings design. Staging. Pieces of a design. Demonstration of the advantages of a logic analysis on the activities sequence and design options. Understand the existence of a wide variety of sucessfull and insucessfull database and how to use it for the final product improvement. Design Qualities Evaluation Methods: QUALITEL, SEL, HQI, MC.FEUP, JBP/LNEC. Handling of a complete example of a small size building Technical Design. Application of a quality evaluation method.
3. TECHNICAL DESIGN REVUE STRATEGIES. Design reviser function. Deonthologic issues. Revue matters on each stage of the design development process. Revue of the presented solutions on different areas: Program response, regulation demandings, expected quality level, durability level, detail and data organization, compatibility of interspecialities, funcionality and maintenence. Design Revue reports and information circulation. Aplication.
4. Risk analysis in construction. Riks on the development of any construction activity.. The FMEA process – Failure Modes and Effects Analysis applied in construction. Analysis of levels of risk and contingency plans.. Adaptation of the Design solutions to the existing levels of risk.

Teaching methods and learning activities

- Theorectic classes of exposition and discussion of specific subjects with transparencies projection.
- Complementary practical classes about the subjects studied on the teorectic classes and of support to the exercises and individual works.
