Objectives

To transmit theoretical and practical knowledge in the areas of the conception and sizing of foundations of buildings and works of art, as well as of structures for support and containment of excavated or filled with earth bulks. In the domain of the conception, it is intended to present the enclosement, in the project and workmanship solutions (“sapatas”, props, wells, walls of support, curtains of containment, etc.), as well as in lands (ground, rocks, ground & rocks). Concerning the sizing and security, the basic aspects of the use of the geologic and geotechnical parameters of the bulks will be reviewed, argued its variability, control and concepts of security. The calculation models will be presented and used in the resolution of cases. The interaction between lands and the structures will be argued on the basis of some cases of project.

Program

Verification of the security. Parameters and geologic variable. Methods of sizing pseudo-statisticians, partial coefficients of security, national regulations of security and euro-codes. Deterministic methods. States limits. Geotechnical and structural sizing of the foundations, interconnection and interferences and sensebilities. Foundations Conception in function of the typology and magnitude of the efforts to transmit to the land. Constructive efficiency and adaptation of the solution to the efforts, processes, required durability, and control of the interference in the structure. Direct foundations and half-deep bulks or, in ground or ground &rocks. “Sapatas”. Sizing. Verification of the security relatively to the capacity of lands and the nestings. Sizing, efforts, codes. Reduction and control of the nestings limits. Durability. Cases and problems to decide: isolated “sapatas”, and “ensoleiramentos”, interference between land and structure. Indirect or deep founndations . Props. Materials. Constructive solutions and technologies. Aims and effects of the use of props. The efficiency and the constructive technology: cravadas props, molded with lost or recoverable mold, props executed with bentonical support of muds. The choice of the solution and the hidro-geologic environment. Geologic Scenes, B, C. Sizing. States limits. Empirical, analytical methods, correlations. Control and assays of reception. Sizing of bulks. Isolated props and in set. Cases of workmanship and conception. Micron-props and jet-grouting. Considered problems: isolated prop, massive of props. Structures of support Impulses active, in rest and liabilities. Fasing of the hollowing or landfill, and mobilization of the impulses. Walls and curtains. Constructive solutions. Curtains of props, molded walls, of metallic profiles, entivation and support for anchorage dues. Diagrams of impulses. The effect of the water and its control. Efficiency and security of the long term drainings. Walls of gravity, walls in L, walls of gabions, verification of the security.
Landfills and recommendations. Curtains for containments. Walls for land support in buildings. Constructive processes. Choice of the solution in face of the constructive procedures and effect on neighbour buildings.
