Objectives

The objective is presenting the instutional framework of Environmental Administration in Portufgal and the most relevant Portuguese and EU legislation concerning Environment Management in all its branches, namely wastes, water and wastewater,...
To prepare the students on the legislation and management of air quality.
To stimulate student participation through the contact with regional and national problems, integrating them in an European and world-wide perspective.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Wastes: Commenting the most important legislation points in the regulatory documents concerning the several steps in the waste management process since its production up to its end disposal.
The indicated documents will be obtainable in its integral format as .pdf texts.
Water and wastewater: presentation of the more relevant Portuguese legislation about water resources planning , utilization of public water sources, water quality criteria and standards for different uses and discharge limits applied to urban and industrial wastewaters. The legislation is supplied to students as pdf. files, as well as the Powerpoint presentation.
Air: presentation of the more relevant legislation related with atmospheric emissions and air quality for the European Union and Portugal. Case studies.
