2 Regional development theories. Contributions: neoclassical perspective and its critics; growth poles; product cycle; profit cycle; international division of labour; "regulationism"; industrial districts; costs of transaction; innovation, knowledge and technological paths. General assessment.
3 Regional development policies. Methodological questions. Regional policies in Portugal and in European Union. Main objectives and programmes. General assessment.
