Designing exhibitions at Google Cultural Institute : between pedagogical experiences and the creation of heritage diffusion products

Resumo (PT): No âmbito do Mestrado em História da Arte Portuguesa da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto foram organizadas exposições virtuais, a primeira dedicada ao ¿Porto Património Mundial¿ e a segunda à paisagem e património do concelho de Sabrosa, na região do Alto Douro Vinhateiro. Ambas as exposições pretendem apresentar um outro ohar sobre o Centro Histórico do Porto, inscrito na Lista Unesco de Património Mundial em 1996, e o território e património de Sabrosa, parte de um sítio inscrito na Lista em 2001. A conceção de ambas as exposições foi definida por docentes e estudantes que, ao longo dos anos académicos, se dedicaram ao trabalho de campo, à pesquisa em bibliotecas e arquivos e ao trabalho realizado em contexto de sala de aula. A criação das exposições na plataforma Google Arts and Culture, resultou numa experiência pedagógica enriquecedora para estudantes, autores das imagens e das suas descrições, e para docentes, curadores e autores dos textos de secção. As exposições foram também assumidas como instrumento exploratório de metodologias de investigação aplicadas a um projeto coletivo. A capacidade de criar produtos culturais em contexto pedagógico foi a motivação central destes projetos. Pretendemos assim sistematizar e refletir no proceso de conceção das exposições que, através de uma plataforma digital, de acesso libre para o ¿utilizador/ visitante¿, procuram mostrar outros olhares sobre o patrimonio, urbano ou paisagístico. A seleção das imagens não foi inocente e procurou construir uma narrativa construída com base numa aturada Investigação sobre o centro histórico do Porto e o concelho de Sabrosa. Através desta proposta, pretendemos pensar, de um modo comparado, sobre as diferenças entre ambas as paisagens patrimonio mundial: um centro histórico e uma paisagem cultural unidas por um rio, o Douro.

Abstract (EN): As part of the MA in History of Portuguese Art at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto, they were organized virtual exhibitions, firstly dedicated to ¿Porto World Heritage¿ and after that to the heritage and landscape of the council of Sabrosa, in the Douro Wine Region. Both exhibitions aim to present a different view of the Historic Centre of Porto, a UNESCO World Heritage Site (1996), and Sabrosa¿s heritage and landscape, part of a UNESCO World Heritage since site 2001. The conception of both exhibitions was defined by teachers and students that, throughout the academics years dedicated themselves to field work, research in libraries and archives, but also to work carried out in the classroom context. The exhibition¿s creation at the Google Arts and Culture platform became an enriching learning experience for students, who produced the images, and wrote the text descriptions, and for teachers, curators and authors of the section texts. They were also assumed as an exploratory instrument of research methodologies applied to a collective project. The ability to create cultural products in a pedagogical context was these project¿s central motivation. We therefore propose to systematize and reflect on the process of designing exhibitions which, through a virtual platform, of free access to the ¿user/visitor¿, try to show different views of the heritage, either urban or landscape. The selection of the images was not innocent and tried to embody a narrative built after a thorough investigation into the historic center of Porto and the council of Sabrosa. Through this proposal, we want to think, in a comparative way, about the differences between two different landscapes, both world heritage: an historic center and a cultural landscape linked by a river, the Douro.
