Mariana Curado Malta (b. Porto, 1969) is a lecturer in information systems in the Department of Computer Engineering at FEUP and a researcher at INESC TEC in the Humanise group.
She graduated from FEUP in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 1992, and in 1996, she completed a Master's degree in Software Engineering and Industrial Computing at the Brest School of Engineering (France). In 2014 she obtained her PhD in Information Systems and Technologies from the School of Engineering at the University of Minho. Her doctoral work focused on the methodological contribution to the development of application profiles in the context of the Semantic Web, under the supervision of Professors Ana Alice Baptista (UMinho) and Cristina Parente (FLUP).
In her research career, she has participated in projects on creating contexts for publishing Linked Open Data on the Semantic Web, data management, knowledge management and the digital transition. More recently, she has been involved in a project financed by PRR national funds to develop a digital tool for facilitating short-circuit processes in the context of family farming.
She has carried out research in the contexts of cultural heritage (e.g. archaeology), culture (e.g. poetry) and the Social and Solidarity Economy (e.g. cooperatives).
She began her career at the Escola Superior de Biotecnologia of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (1993-2003), then moved to the Instituto Superior de Contabilidade do Porto of the Instituto Politécnico do Porto (1998-2023), having accumulated functions in both places in the first few years, and recently (January 2024) joined FEUP as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Engineering in the sub-area of Information Systems.
She has been a researcher at INESC TEC in the 'Human-Centered Computing and Information Science' group (Humanize) since January 2024.
She has been a member of the Portuguese Order of Engineers since dhe graduated (1992)
