Current position: Invited Full Professor of Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP); Member of the Board of Directors and Principal Researcher of National Laboratory for Civil Engineering (LNEC); Member of the Scientific Council of LNEC; Member of the Board of Directors of CERTIF; Chief Editor of the scientific journal Geotecnia. Member of the Editorial Board of Sustainability Journal (Sustainable Engineering and Science Section) and of the Frontiers in Built Environment Journal (Transportation and Transit Systems Section).

Education: Degree in Civil Engineering from FEUP (1991); Master in Civil Engineering Structures from FEUP (1994); PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Porto (2005); Executive Master in Project Management by ISCTE - University Institute of Lisbon (2008); MSc in Business Administration from ISCTE (2009); Habilitation in Civil Engineering from the University of Porto (2018).

Main research interests/skills: Transportation infrastructures (design, build, renewal, characterization, monitoring, modelling and analysis of the behaviour); Physical and numerical modelling of the mechanical behaviour of geomaterials; Laboratory and "in situ” characterization of geomaterials; Asset management.

Years of relevant experience: 30

Main activities: Principal Investigator of 14 research projects and member of the team of 13 research projects; supervisor of 4 doctoral theses; author of more than 400 scientific and technical publications.
