Current position: Assistant Professor of Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP); Researcher (integrated member) of the R&D Unit CONSTRUCT - Institute of R&D in Structures and Construction, GEO group (Geotechnics).
Education: Degree in Civil Engineering from FEUP (1982); equivalence to master - tests of Pedagogical Aptitude and Scientific Ability (FEUP, 1987); PhD in Civil Engineering from FEUP (1996).
Main research interests/skills: Numerical modeling of geotechnical structures; Development of finite element programs - modeling of geotechnical works; Embankments on soft soils; Ground improvement and reinforcement - geosynthetics, stone columns, jet-grouting, PVDs; Retaining structures in excavations; Foundations; Critical state soil mechanics - constitutive models.
Main activities: Teaching of disciplines in the areas of Construction and Geotechnics; scientific supervisor of PhD and master theses; author of international and national technical-scientific publications, as well as of pedagogical publications; member of organizing committees of international and national technical-scientific conferences; chairman of a national technical-scientific workshop; participation in research projects.
