Apresentação Pessoal
Sónia Luísa dos Santos Simões (PhD in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering in 2011) is a researcher at the Associate Laboratory of Energy, Transports and Aeronautics (LAETA) and a member of the Institute of Science and Innovation in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (INEGI).
She supervised six Ph.D. theses and sixteen M.Sc. dissertations. She is a co-author of 87 papers indexed by Scopus, with 1359 citations (in 968 documents) and an h-index of 20. She supervises two PhD students and three MSc students.
She has participated in the Organizing and Scientific Committees of some national and international events and belongs to the Boards of the Portuguese Materials Society and the Portuguese Microscopy Society. S is the scientific coordinator of tImagem, Microestrutura e Microanálise (IMICROS) do Centro de Materiais da Universidade do Porto (CEMUP).
She has been a member of the Topical Advisory Panel of Metals, MDPI, since 2018 and of the Reviewer Board of Materials, MDPI, since 2020. He has been Guest Editor of five special issues of the journal "Metals", MDPI: Since February 2023, she has been Associate Editor of the section "Thin Solid Films" of the journal "Frontiers in Materials".
Participation in some Engineering projects funded by the FCT and the European Commission. In recent years, research has mainly addressed the study of microstructural and mechanical characterization of nanomaterials, thin films, multilayers, bonding interfaces, carbon nanotubes, and nanocomposites. In particular, I am interested in understanding the relationships between microstructure and material properties and the fundamental mechanisms underlying structural and property changes induced by some microstructural characteristics (grain growth, formation of new phases, texture, dislocations,. ..). Since 2006, she has accumulated valuable experience in advanced materials characterization, an es tool in research work.
