Current position: Associate Professor with Habilitation at the Civil Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP); Integrated Member of the R&D unit CONSTRUCT- Institute of R&D in Structures and Construction.
Education: Degree in Civil Engineering from FEUP (1987); Master in Civil Engineering Structures from FEUP (1992); PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Porto (1997); Habilitation in Civil Engineering from the University of Porto (2023).
Main research interests/skills: experimental and numerical assessment of cyclic and seismic behaviour of structures, with special emphasis in old constructions and reinforced concrete structures; lab and in-situ static and dynamic testing for structural characterization; structural monitoring of old constructions; strengthening and repair of existing structures, particularly regarding their seismic response improvement.

Main activities: Principal Investigator of 2 research projects and member of the team of 13 research projects in the area of railways; supervisor/co-supervisor of 14 doctoral theses; author of more than 380 scientific and technical publications mainly in the fields of Earthquake Engineering and Rehabilitation of Ancient Structures
Other relevant information: Specialized consultancy within the Construction Institute of FEUP, with special focus on historical/heritage structures. Former responsible/co-responsible by collaboration protocols between FEUP and the Northern Portugal Regional Directorate for Culture (DRCN) and similar former institutions running continuously from 1999 to 2014. Responsible for the Technical Consultancy support of FEUP to Metro do Porto S.A. for the structural behaviour assessment and observation of sensitive historical constructions within the influence area of the new branch of the Circular Line of Metro do Porto.
