Personal Presentation

Current position: Full Professor at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto (FEUP).

Academic Background: Degree in Civil Engineering from FEUP (1983); Master in Structures of Civil Engineering from FEUP (1988); PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Porto (1995); Aggregation in Civil Engineering from the University of Porto (2006).

Main research interests/competences: Nonlinear analysis of structures; Development and use of constitutive models for numerical simulation of the behaviour of structural concrete; Experimental characterization and modelling of the thermo-mechanical behaviour of concrete in the early ages, including the phenomena of cement hydration, maturation and creep; Experimental characterization and modelling of the hygro-mechanical behaviour of concrete, with total or partially restrained drying shrinkage; Concrete dams engineering.

Main activities developed: Scientific Coordinator of the LABEST Research Unit - Laboratory for the Concrete Technology and Structural Behaviour, in the period 2010-2014; Coordinator of 7 research projects and member of the team of 11 research projects; Supervisor or co-supervisor of 12 completed doctoral theses; Author of more than 250 technical and scientific publications.
