Current Positions

Associate Professor of the Building Division of the Department of Civil Engineering at FEUP. Member of the Scientific Committee and of the Monitoring Committee of the Master in Integrated Building Design and Construction. Member of the R&D Unit CONSTRUCT - Institute of R&D in Structures and Construction, subunit of the Building Physics Laboratory.

Academic education

Degree in Civil Engineering – Building Construction (FEUP, 1983). Master in Thermal Engineering (FEUP, DEMEC, 1988). PhD in Civil Engineering (FEUP, 1997).

Main research interests

Thermal behaviour of buildings. Energy efficiency in buildings. Passive strategies. Nearly / Net Zero Energy Buildings. Sustainability in construction. Renovation.

Main Activities

Teaching Course Units related to Thermal Performance of Buildings and Construction Sustainability, at the Master in Civil Engineering, at the Advanced Studies in the Built Heritage Renovation, at the Master in Integrated Building Design and Construction and at the Master in Sustainable Design, Construction and Management of the Built Environment. Supervision of 10 PhD theses (6 completed and 4 in progress). Supervision of more than 100 MSc theses (18 pre-Bologna).

Participation, as a researcher or as the PI, in 11 national and international research projects. Author of more than 110 technical and scientific publications (articles in specialized scientific journals, articles in magazines of the construction sector, international book chapters, a national book, articles in national and international scientific meetings). More than 15 lectures at the invitation of several entities. Qualified expert of the Building Energy Certification System.
