The Mechanical Engineering doctoral programme (PRODEM) of the Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto – FEUP trains leaders in Mechanical Engineering through high level research. It benefits from the tradition of Mechanical Engineering research and education at FEUP and was recently reformatted as a consequence of the Bologna process, also including a component of lectures further to the main activity ‐ research.
Mechanical Engineering R&D at FEUP is carried out in a variety of contexts, particularly R&D Units recognized by the Portuguese Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, based at FEUP itself or in R&D institutes associated to FEUP, such as INEGI.
As one of the senior Engineering specialties, Mechanical Engineering represents a vast area of knowledge, permanently rejuvenated through the appearance of new fields of interest and new increasingly powerful numerical and experimental tools.
The Mechanical Engineering Doctoral Program (PRODEM) of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto-FEUP aims to train highly qualified researchers in the area of Mechanical Engineering. The training is conducted by a high level study and research in a subject included in the wide range of areas covered by mechanical engineering. As a result the student should be able to carry out important research in the area of his PhD, autonomous but also at the same time several Integrator competences, promote the development of knowledge both in academic and scientific environment, as well as in business environment.
