Objectives
An integrating project/internship about a specific theme in the area of knowledge of the study cycle should be carried out. One of the following alternatives should be considered: i) undertake an internship at a company or research unit, namely in the Chemical Engineering Department of FEUP; ii) solving a “real problem” of a company; or iii) participation in a multidisciplinary project. Options ii) and iii) must be proposed by the students.
Learning outcomes and competences
Integration of knowledge and skills acquired at the 1st cycle level through an integrating project/internship about a specific theme in the area of knowledge of the study cycle.
Demonstrate knowledge about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations, integrating sustainability principles into Engineering practices. This includes being able to identify the contribution of their work to the environmental, social and economic aspects of the proposed solutions, with a view to a more sustainable and inclusive future through projects and initiatives aligned with the SDGs.
Working method
Presencial
Pre-requirements (prior knowledge) and co-requirements (common knowledge)
Successful completion of the first 4 semesters of the L.EQ is recommended.
Program
This course unit (Project in Chemical Engineering) aims at offering students a diversity of options and experiences, namely: 1. work, project or internship in business environment 2. work, project or internship in an academic environment. Professors, researchers and companies propose topics to be develop individually (excepcionally in groups of students), offering the necessary means to carry them out.
Students are also encouraged to be proactive and to propose some topics themselves, which of course will have to be validated. Students will have at least one academic supervisor at FEUP, and an external supervisor at the company (for works in business environment).
Mandatory literature
n.a.; n.a. (The bibliography will be chosen according to the project/internship's theme.)
Comments from the literature
The bibliography will be chosen according to the project/internship's theme.
Teaching methods and learning activities
The project is carried out individually (excepcionally in group), that promote students’ initiative, decision-making skills, creative and
critical thinking. It should culminate with the execution of a report, as well as its presentation and discussion.
Type of evaluation: Distributed evaluation without final exam.
Terms of frequency: Keeping to schedule at the host institution (company/university) and meet the report and oral
presentation deadlines.
Final mark: 50% due to supervisor(s) opinion and report + 50% oral presentation and discussion, with a jury.
Evaluation Type
Distributed evaluation without final exam

Calculation formula of final grade
The final classification (CF) obtained by the student in the Chemical Engineering Project curricular unit (PEQ) results from the application of the following expression:
CF=0.5*T&R+0.5*AP,
where T&R is the classification proposed by the academic tutor (professor or doctoral researcher at DEQ) for the “work&report” component and AP is the classification proposed by the PEQ jury for the “oral presentation” component (which includes the respective defense).
The academic tutor is responsible for grading the T&R component. This results from the application of the following expression:
T&R=0.5*AG+0.5*AD,
where AG is the general evaluation of the internship and AD is the document/report evaluation.
Classification improvement
Attend the course in the following academic year.
