Objectives

Knowledge: To describe the principles of analysis, selection and design in order to detail nonstructural elements in the envelope of buildings. Understanding: To understand the behaviour, performance and operation of nonstructural elements in the envelope of buildings. To interpret and apply technical documentation. Application: To develop solutions and submit drawings. Evaluation: To criticise the solutions found. To choose appropriate solutions with the best performance. Research: To arouse an interest in the discovery of knowledge, working on problems with various solutions. Project: To design nonstructural elements in the envelope of buildings. Practice: To develop appropriate, feasible solutions. To present solutions in scale drawings, together with all the notes required for a proper implementation on site.

Program

Regulation in Construction Products (IPQ) 305/2011, Requirements/Performance, Technical Documentation: Innovative Systems and Materials (typeapproval and constructive specifications). Opaque façades: traditional, innovative, light and ventilated. Analysis of different solutions and thermal insulation requirement selection (ISOLE). Façade cladding solutions. Glazing: Windows, glazing, frames and their properties. Tests on windows: waterproofing, air permeability and wind pressure. Inclined and flat roof solutions (traditional and inverted). Analysis of different waterproofing systems: Bitumen sheets, PVC and liquid/shot. Lining systems for inclined roofs with sandwich metal panels. Ecoconstruction.

Flooring solutions. Floor covering requirement selection (UPEC). Constructive specifications for the various nonstructural elements in the envelope of buildings.

Teaching methods and learning activities

The three weekly hours planned will be divided into a theoretical class of 60 minutes, of a more presentational nature, in which the models, concepts and parameters will be explained, and an applicationoriented

theoreticalpractical class of 120 minutes, in which the topics addressed will be discussed, exercises made and work performed.

The assessment will be continuous, with a final examination, with the final classification calculated using the following formula: FC=0.5*FE+0.50*DE (CF = final classification, EF = final examination, AD = continuous assessment).
