Objectives

Introduction of construction durability concepts.
Knowledge of service life planning methodologies.
Analysis of applicable standardization.
Determination of estimated service life in case studies.
Implementation of measures to promote durability.

Knowledge: to describe the main concepts applicable in the frame of Durability.

Understanding: to interpret the standardization structure relevant for the application of durability analysis principles.

Application: to implement service life planning procedures.

Analysis: to use data bases combined with standardized procedures for the estimated service life evaluation.

Synthesis: to systematicaly determine the conditioning factors of durability in practical cases.

Evaluation: to evaluate the results of the service life planning methodologies application.

Rehabilitation design: to propose measures for durability increase.

Rehabilitation research: to identify relevant information sources for durability analysis.

2. Durability and the ISO 15686 standard: service life planning of a building.
3. The demand based selection of solutions and its importance for durability. Examples.
4. Evaluation of the durability of rehabilitation solutions.

Teaching methods and learning activities

The teaching is tutorial and includes the provision of studying elements and individual sessions for the presentation and discussion of UC contents. The student grading is based on a written assignement.

DEMONSTRATION OF THE COHERENCE BETWEEN THE TEACHING METHODOLOGIES AND THE LEARNING OUTCOMES:

The individual sessions allow for an accompanied study and the discussion of future developments.
