Objectives

This course aims to acquaint students with the fundamental concepts of Thermodynamics and apply them to the main engine cycles and refrigeration, as well as to psychrometrics and combustion. Learning Outcomes: students should know how to analyse energy transformers cycles, psychrometric processes and combustion. First week: acquaintance and understanding of important parameters in the analyse of the main thermodynamic cycles; Rest of the semester: acquaintance with the energy transformers cycles and their performance. A psychrometric and combustion approach.

Calculation formula of final grade

The assessment of this course (uc) will be made as follows: - 1st Test, T1, required, on a date to be communicated to students; this test will represent 50% of the final grade and shall be approximately half of the program the uc; - 2nd test, T2, include the remaining subjects after the T1; this test will also have a weight of 50% of the final grade  and will be carried out in the date established for the final examination (in this date no final examination will be carried). The final grade will be the average of T1 and T2. The recourse test will be performed by students who have not obtained a minimum score in any of 10 values in both tests or examination, or further to improve the classification. This examination also includes all matter. Each test, consist of a theoretical part to be held in the Moodle platform - American type-test (6 points) and a practical part with  realization of problems (14 points). All pratical tests will last for 2:00h, and the therotical ones for 15:00 min.

Observations

For all examinations, the students can only take with them the book  "Termodinâmica para Engenharia" and tables of thermodinamic properties of substances. The studants that don't have the book can take four pages A4 written with information that the students think is necessary.
