Objectives

JUSTIFICATION:
The Civil Engineer, either by  for their involvement in the various stages of the project, or by its decisive role in the construction phase,  is in prime position to take a major role in the service phase of a building.

OBJECTIVES:
Develop technical skills to approach a building in service. Individualization of a new concept in the field of management that is the management of buildings So the discipline of maintenance & rehabilitation of buildings has as primary goal to enable future civil engineers with specific training in all aspects of a building in technical

Learning outcomes and competences

In a systematic way we can enumerate the following learning fields:

-In design phase:
-cost of a building in service.
-Estimation of overall cost of alternative solutions-Parameterization of the service-life of a building or solution

-In construction phase:
-definition of constructive requirements aiming maintenance.
-Definition and selection of materials and components from the perspective "durability".

-In use phase:
-management of built heritage
-studies and maintenance projects
-consultancy in rehabilitation projects
-definition and study of the maintenance and rehabilitation technology
-plumbing and contest of financial resources in support of maintenance and rehabilitation actions.

Program

Building in service behaviour (Factors of degradation of buildings, Life-cycle, Classification of the interventions, Simulation of building behavior ).
Building Management, Smart Buildings.
Building Maintenance (Involved concepts, Maintenance policy, Economy of maintenance, Methodology of maintenance, Applicable legislation, Programs of financing).
Building Refurbishment (Classification and criteria of the interventions, Economics of building refurbishment, Methodology of Diagnosis, Aspects).
Survey and diagnosis of building pathology.
Technology of building maintenance and rehabilitation (M&R) (Structures, not resistant Masonry, Outer covers, Interior coverings, Paintings, Coverings, Vain, Installations).
 Design for building rehabilitation

DEMONSTRATION OF THE SYLLABUS COHERENCE WITH THE CURRICULAR UNIT'S OBJECTIVES:
The syllabus give to the future engineers, either by its involvement in different phases of the project, either for its decisive role in the construction phase, skills to play an important role in the service phase of a building.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Pedagogically uses the educational method based on the learning necessity to win difficulties. Each pupil faces in the beginning of the discipline a practical case in the domain of the building pathology, for which he does not have resolution aptitudes. The chance is given to develop these aptitudes in uncurling of the discipline with theoretical lessons, thematic lectures, debates and technical and commercial presentations.

DEMONSTRATION OF THE COHERENCE BETWEEN THE TEACHING METHODOLOGIES AND THE LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Establish process and algorithms of concept and constructive analysis to identify the most efficient from the desired point of view. Rank the results of the application of assessment methodologies and strategies to choose solutions. Understand and propose new solutions to improve the quality construction. To evaluate the methodologies used and predict directions of evolution that they may follow.
