Objectives

This course aims to acquaint students with the most important subjects related with civil engineers that will work with contractors and management and supervision companies. The chapter about health and security in construction sites aims to acquaint students with the criminal issues that may arise. This course will be divided into two: Module A (theoretical classes) and Module B (practical classes).
Learning Outcomes:
To organize information; self-oriented study; ethics; thinking and acting under pressure; to communicate in a foreign language; written communication; oral communication; group interaction; leadership; problem formulation; time management; integration of knowledge; design( analysis, specification, design and validation); problem solving

DEMONSTRATION OF THE SYLLABUS COHERENCE WITH THE CURRICULAR UNIT'S OBJECTIVES:

The curricular unit of Construction Management and Safety aims to present and fit construction activity and its processes related to civil engineering non designer issues. It is also intended to present several themes related with civil engineers that will work with contractors and management and supervision companies.

Teaching methods and learning activities

24/26 Lectures of 1 hour each
Software training on computer rooms (4/6 hours)
Applied work with tutors in 3 themes (18/20 hours)
One small report prepared by groups of 2 students outside class environment (10 hours). The report is presented and discussed by each group.

DEMONSTRATION OF THE COHERENCE BETWEEN THE TEACHING METHODOLOGIES AND THE LEARNING OUTCOMES:

The teaching methodologies develop the ability to plan, prepare and supervise the construction works, taking into account the legislation and the main aspects related to safety and health.

Distributed evaluation without final exam

Eligibility for exams

There will not be absence control
Students have to be enrolled in the course.

Calculation formula of final grade

NF = 0.35Mt1+0.35Mt2+0.30T; NF= Final classification
Continuous evaluation method

Examinations or Special Assignments

2 exams (Mt1 and Mt2) and 1 group of 2 students report (T).

Special examination in date defined by the Civil Engineering Course Director

SPECIAL RULES FOR MOBILITY STUDENTS:
Proficiency in Portuguese (to be validated previously by the responsable of GOSE);
Previous attendance of introductory graduate courses in the technical or scientific field addressed in this module;
Evaluation by exam and/or coursework(s) defined in accordance with student profile.
