Objectives

To transmit to the students the capacity to handle geometric and non-geometric information in the production area.
To implement computer programs that allow the processing of the information retrieved from commercial CAD/CAM software systems.
To identify and use the diverse characteristics inherent to the drafting programs and numerical control machines.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the semester, students should:

1. Be acquainted with CAD/CAM systems;
2. be able to design a definition drawing or an assembly drawing using CAD systems;
3. be able to create three-dimensional components of mechanical systems and be able to assemble them using CAD systems;
4. be able to easily obtain definition and assembly drawings previously created, or one of their components using CAD systems;
5. know how to develop computer programs to process information of CAD/CAM systems;
6. be acquainted with the main concepts of numerical command systems and associated machine tool;
7. Know how to develop numerical command programs for milling and turning lathe machines.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Exposition of the different themes in theoretical classes with the analysis of several examples.
During the theoretical classes, several themes will be suggested for practical assignments.

In practical classes, some particularities are presented and some exercises are suggested, to be done on the computer, to apply the concepts presented in the theoretical classes.
The last classes are reserved for a more intense support to the practical assignments.

Eligibility for exams

To complete this course the students must attain the required frequency of the practical classes.
The students must undergo all components of evaluation: final examination (written), delivery of the practical assignment, presentation and discussion of the practical assignment.

Calculation formula of final grade

The final classification will be the result of the grades obtained in each of the evaluation components using the following weights:

- Final examination: 60% (written, a minimum grade of 30% is required);
- Practical assignment: 40% (with presentation and discussion).

Examinations or Special Assignments

Not applicable

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

According to the number 7 of the Article 6 of General Evaluation Rules of FEUP, students will be called to do a written examination (on all contents of the discipline), a practical assignment and a possible practical CAD examination.

Classification improvement

According to Article 10 of General Evaluation Rules of FEUP.
