Objectives

To teach the students the notions of energy (heat and work). To apply the Laws of Thermodynamics to determine the energy transferences in thermal systems.

Program

Introduction
Fundamental concepts;
Energy: Zero law of thermodynamics;
Properties of a pure substance;
First law of thermodynamics;
Second law of thermodynamics
Entropy.

Eligibility for exams

Please see the General Evaluation Rules of FEUP

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

Evaluation only with a written exam on a date to be set by the course’s responsible.

Observations

During the exams, the students can only consult the Thermodynamic Charts, as well as four sheets of paper on which the student will write all the information he finds necessary.
The students with a final classification equal or superior to 17 marks will have to do an oral exam.
