Objectives
JUSTIFICATION
The program of this course is intended to complement the studies of engineering with concepts and tools of industrial management, providing the ability to interact with professionals with different backgrounds in an business environment . The responsibilities of professional engineering are associated not only with the conception and design but also the production of goods and services. Such activities add value and consume scarce resources. So, complement traditional education in engineering with education in industrial management is the justification of this course unit.
GENERAL AIMS
This course unit aims to provide students with knowledge in operations management: how operations managers achieve goals, adopting management principles and using management techniques; and reinforce the competences to manage the activities that creates goods and services by transforming inputs into outputs.
SPECIFIC AIMS
After the completion of this course unit, students should be capable of:
- performing on management operations by applyinh supply chain methodology and value chain analysis;
- planning and monitoring operations ;
- understanding the various capital budgeting methods to evaluate projects, being capable to apply the cost-benefice principle, and to integrate marketing, operations, financial and other specific studies ;
- understanding and applying leadership theory in accordance with the theory of organisations;
- understanding the methodology of strategic management, in order to think strategically and to make strategic decision;
- representing mathematically a problem of linear programming, as well as using and interpreting a simplex algorithm;
- Integrating and interacting with specialists in organizational environments.

Problem formulation. Mathematical and graphical representation. Simplex algorithm.

The concepts are taught on a theoretical approach.Some subjects are exposed in a very close way to real business life.The issues, technical terms and techniques in order to reinforce the students' understanding of concepts.The method is the active learning approach.

Calculation formula of final grade
Final Grade is composed by the result of the exam (90% of the final grade), plus a group assignment(10% of the final grade).
Students have to reach a minimum grade of 10 out of 20 on the final exam.
