Received his PhD from the University of Porto in 2015, with a thesis about the power loss in gears and rolling bearings. Currently, his research focuses on gear's running-in, and also the thermo-mechanical behaviour of polymer gears.

He has collaborated with international researchers in the testing and development of new bio-based lubricants.

He teaches Machine Elements in the bachelor's and master's degrees in Mechanical Engineering at FEUP.

Since 2022, he has been serving as the director of the Tribology, Vibrations, and Industrial Maintenance (CETRIB) research unit at INEGI.
