Current position: Assistant Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering of FEUP; Integrated member of CONSTRUCT - Institute of R&D in Structures and Construction.

Education: Graduate Degree in Civil Engineering from FEUP (2000); Master in Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering from FEUP (2003); PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Porto (2009) under the supervision of Prof. António Viana da Fonseca (FEUP), Dr. David Nash (Univ. Bristol) and Dr. Paul Greening (UCL), with the title of European Doctorate.

Main research interests/skills: geophysical and geotechnical site and laboratory characterisation, with emphasis in wave-based non-destructive testing; development of new laboratory techniques based on bender elements; assessment of seismic and static liquefaction susceptibility; development of new liquefaction mitigation techniques; mechanics of non-textbook geomaterials (residual soils, unsaturated soils, cemented geomaterials, mine tailings) for definition of constitutive behaviour models.

Years of relevant experience: 15

Main activities: Principal investigator of 2 transnational GEOLAB project (H2020) and 2 FCT projects, team member of 1 H2020 and 6 FCT completed research projects; supervisor of 4 PhD theses (ongoing), co-supervisor of 1 concluded PhD thesis and of 27 completed MSc theses; co-editor of 3 books; author of 36 papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals, as well as 55 papers in international and national conferences.

Other relevant information: Portuguese nominated member on TC101 of ISSMGE; member of GT3 of CPGT (Portuguese Committee of Transportation Geotechnics) of the Portuguese Geotechnical Society.
