I hold a PhD in Industrial Engineering and Management (2016) and a Master in Electrical and Computers Engineering (2008), both from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP). In 2008 I started working as a functional analyst in a clinical software company, where I analysed business processes of the healthcare organisations adopting the software and specified requirements to be developed. This experience of slightly over two years allowed me to get in touch with different types of healthcare institutions in different countries. At the end of 2010 I returned to the university to start my doctoral studies, inspired by some of those previous experiences.
I am currently an assistant professor at FEUP, in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management, and a researcher at INESC TEC in the field of technology management and policy. Previously I was invited assistant professor at the School of Economics of UP (FEP) and at Porto Business School. I teach entrepreneurship and management courses, namely innovation management and technology management.
As a PhD student I was member of the accompanying committee of the Doctoral Program in Industrial Engineering and Management (PRODEGI), between 2014 and 2015. I was also a member of the scientific committee and the accompanying committee of the Master in Economics and Management of Innovation at FEP between 2019 and 2023.
My research focuses on the dissemination and use of technologies in organisations. More specifically, I study the dynamics of strategic and operational alignment that result from the adoption of new technologies, the dynamics of diffusion and adoption of new technologies in organisations, and the reconfiguration of business models to explore opportunities created by new technologies. I have participated in scientific projects, both national and international, contributing with the study of these same areas of research for the specific context of each project, i.e. conducting studies about the diffusion, adoption or implementation of the specific technology(ies) developed in the project or about the best business model configurations to take advantage of the opportunities created by the technology(s) developed in the project. I have participated in projects in the areas of health, energy, culture, forestry and industry.
I have also been working on the dissemination of research results through participation in advanced consultancy projects focusing on the implementation and adoption of new technologies and on the development of public policies that promote the adoption of new technologies. Furthermore, I have been organising conferences in technology management and in innovation management, as well we workshops and masterclasses on technology management at industrial and scientific conferences.
