Main research interests/skills:
Advanced numerical models for structural safety assessment. Advanced techniques of structural reliability analysis. Numerical modelling of concrete structures. Safety assessment of existing structures. Interpretation of measurements obtained from structural monitoring systems.
Main activities:
In the last 15 years, participated in 8 research projects in the area of structural monitoring, structural integrity and safety assessment and more recently in the area of Railways. He was responsible for the FEUP team group of a research project supported by the National Innovation Agency, in Portugal. Supervisor of 6 PhD theses already concluded and several MSc theses. He is the author of more than 200 scientific and technical publications.

Director of the Master in Civil Engineering Structures (MESTEC) at FEUP since 2023, he was the Director of the Integrated Master in Civil Engineering (MIEC) at FEUP between 2010 and 2019 and Head of the Structural Division of DEC/FEUP between 2019 and 2023.
